The RSAMCC 2025 Merit Award Application

The 2025 Merit Award Application is now open.

​

The Redstone Arsenal Military and Civilians’ Club (RSAMCC) will be awarding educational merit awards in 2025 to eligible students whose parent is a member in good standing with RSAMCC and/or a child or grandchild of an HCMOAA member, JROTC cadets who are seniors, or a dependent spouse of an Armed Forces Service Member who is assigned to Redstone Arsenal.  RSAMCC Merit Awards and HCMOAA Military Community Scholarships are educational scholarships for eligible students to include rising college freshman, current undergraduate and graduate college students for the fall semester of the 2025 academic year. Additionally, this year RSAMCC will be in partnering with the Yates Family Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students who are Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard members (or spouses) assigned to Redstone Arsenal, or a veteran (or spouse) residing within 50 miles of RSA.  (See eligibility guidelines other requirements).

THE RSAMCC IS A NOT FOR PROFIT 501(c) 4 PRIVATE ORGANIZATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH REDSTONE ARSENAL OR THE US ARMY.

There are three types of scholarships to apply for this year. Make sure to read the eligibility requirements in the form carefully.  Select which award you are applying for (if you qualify you can select any or all)

 

1. RSAMCC Merit Award – For members of RSAMCC and their dependents.

 

2. HCMOAA Military Community Scholarship 2025 – Please read eligibility requirements in the form. Applicants do NOT need to be a member of the RSAMCC Club to be eligible.

3. Yates Family Scholarship - Please read eligibility requirements in the form. Applicants do NOT need to be a member of the RSAMCC Club to be eligible.

 

DEADLINE TO APPLY:  February 21, 2025:  All applications must be received through the below RSAMCC online application form before 9pm (CT), February 21st, 2025. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Award recipients will be notified during the month of April.  The awards ceremony will be held on 13 May, 5:30 p.m. at The Summit at Redstone Arsenal. Details will be sent via email to award recipients at time of notification of their award. Award amounts will be announced at the ceremony, as well as a letter after the ceremony.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

  1. Merit Awards eligibility is open to the following:  graduating high school seniors of the Class of 2025 who plan to continue their education, currently enrolled full-time college students, and military members (active, reserve or NG), veterans and military spouses enrolled in or planning to enroll in college (full- or part-time). If you do not meet these eligibility requirements, your application will NOT be considered.  Additional proof may be required on a case by case basis.

  2. Eligibility Requirement categories: â€‹

Category 1 - RSAMCC Merit Awards
The Applicant must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Sponsor must be a member of RSAMCC in good standing by December 11, 2024.

  2. Applicant must not be in receipt of a full scholarship (pays tuition, room or board) or full post 9/11 GI Bill for the upcoming school year to include appointment to military academies for all service branches.

  3. Be a graduating high school senior attending a high school within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal (with at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale).

  4. Plan to pursue an Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year.

  5. Satisfy all limitations, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the "Limitations and Conditions" section of the application.

Category 2 - Huntsville Chapter Military Officers Association of America (HCMOAA) Military Community Scholarship
The applicant must meet one of the criteria for 1-3 and criteria 4:

  1. Be a child or grandchild of an HCMOAA member

  2. Be a legal dependent spouse or child of an Armed Forces member who is one of the following: Active Duty and assigned to a Redstone Arsenal unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal at the time this application is submitted, OR a Reserve Member and assigned to a Redstone Arsenal unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal, OR a National Guard Member and assigned to a Redstone Arsenal unit and resides within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal, OR a retired military member residing within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal

  3. Participate in a local JROTC program within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal

  4. Plan to pursue an Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year.  Individuals currently enrolled in a program must possess at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.        

  5. Satisfy all limitations, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the "Limitations and Conditions" section of the application.

Category 3 - Yates Family Scholarship for the Non-Traditional Student (new category)
The applicant must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Be an Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard Member assigned to a Redstone Arsenal unit or a spouse of a member; or a veteran or spouse of a veteran residing within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal at the time the application is submitted. 

  2. Plan to pursue an Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year.  Individuals currently enrolled in a program must possess at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

  3. Satisfy all limitations, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the "Limitations and Conditions" section of the application.

Limitations & Conditions
Restrictions- Applies to ALL Eligibility Categories

  1. An Applicant must NOT be a previous awardee of a RSAMCC scholarship.

  2. RSAMCC reserves the right to determine eligibility and to increase, decrease or withdraw any or all awards.

  3. Applicants who accept a full four-year tuition/room & board scholarship, a full four-year grant, or an appointment to a military academy will NOT be eligible to receive any RSAMCC scholarship monies. Additionally, any student who receives from a family member a Post 9/11 GI Bill disbursement that covers the entire cost of the yearly tuition/room & board, will NOT be eligible to receive RSAMCC Merit Awards Scholarship monies.

  4. Recipients must be enrolled or plan to be enrolled in their accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year.

  5. The number of scholarships awarded and the dollar amount of each scholarship are determined by the success of fundraising endeavors of the RSAMCC and HCMOAA.

  6. Scholarships presented at the annual RSAMCC Merit Awards banquet must be deposited into the student's school account to be used for the costs of tuition, room and board for the 2025 Fall Semester.

Proof of Eligibility Requirements

If you are notified that you are an award finalist, you will be required to provide proof of eligibility.  

A copy of unofficial transcript is required upon submission of application.

Important Dates

December 9, 2024 - RSAMCC 2025 Merit Awards Applications available online

December 11th, 2024 (before midnight) – Full Year 2024-25 RSAMCC Membership Application Deadline (with dues paid/received)

​

February 21, 2025 (before 9pm(CT)) – Completed RSAMCC Merit Award Application Packet Deadline

May 1, 2025 – All applicants will be notified and award recipients will be required to present further eligibility documentation if needed.

​

TUES, May 13, 2025, 5:30 p.m. - RSAMCC Merit Award Presentation at The Summit on Redstone Arsenal. Applicants are required to be in attendance to receive their award.  Any exceptions must be approved by the RSAMCC Merit Award Committee Chair with approval from the RSAMCC Board.

Photo Release

If applicant is selected for a RSAMCC Merit Award, the applicant’s photo will be published on RSAMCC’s website including RSAMCC social media, and used in future RSAMCC marketing/advertising.  Please see photo release statement in the application.​​​​​​​​​

After completing your application, submit your Unofficial Transcript by emailing it to rsamccmeritawards@gmail.com upon submission of your application. All required documents must be received by 9pm Feb. 21st.  You will receive confirmation of receipt of documentation from our Merit Awards Chair.

Category 3 -Yates Family Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students
The Applicant must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Be an Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard Member assigned to a Redstone Arsenal unit or a spouse of a member; or a veteran or spouse of a veteran residing within a 50-mile radius of Redstone Arsenal at the time the application is submitted.

  2. Plan to pursue an Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year.  Individuals currently enrolled in a program must possess at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

  3. Satisfy all limitations, conditions, and restrictions set forth in the "Limitations and Conditions" section of this notification.

Short Answer Essay (no more than 500 words)

Content Guidelines
1) Write in first person.  Use your own voice and highlight what is unique about yourself.  The reviewers are looking for evidence of your authentic voice in your responses.

2) Write in a clear and concise manner.  The reviewer must be able to understand what your main idea is and follow it from beginning to end.  

3) Answer the entire question.  Pay close attention to what is being asked and make sure that it is clear to the reviewer that you have answered the question.

4) Include specific details, examples, and reasons to fully develop your ideas.

5) Important:  Refer to the purposes of the RSAMCC in answering each of the questions:
-Provide educational, cultural, and recreational activities
-Foster and preserve the ideals of good fellowship
-Promote social welfare and support community activities
-Support military and Gold Star Families, to include those of deployed military personnel, and government civilians

If I receive a RSAMCC 2025
 Merit Award, HCMOAA Military Community Scholarship or a Yates Family Scholarship, I understand and will abide by, the following criteria:
•   The RSAMCC Merit Award, HCMOAA Military Community Scholarship and the Yates Family Scholarship may only be used for tuition, room and board.
•   I must enroll in the school of my choice and use the 2025 RSAMCC Merit Award, HCMOAA Military Community Scholarship or the Yates Family Scholarship for tuition or Room and Board in the fall of 2025.
•    A check in the amount of the full award will be written to and sent directly to the school.
•   I will return/forfeit the RSAMCC Merit Award, HCMOAA Military Community Scholarship or the Yates Family Scholarship if one of the following occurs:  1) I am awarded a fully-funded scholarship (this includes the VA GI Bill), or 2) I fail to utilize the RSAMCC Merit Award, the HCMOAA Military Community Scholarship or the Yates Family Scholarship before December 31, 2025.  
•   If you change schools prior to the start of the first semester, you must inform the RSAMCC (at  rsamccmeritawards@gmail.com) of the name and contact information of the new school to which you want the scholarship to be sent.
